County officials give an inside look at drug use and crime

"We see this all the time. The damn spoon and the needle," Kankakee County Coroner Bob Gessner said. He was at the State's Attorney's Citizens Academy to make sure people knew: Kankakee County has a problem. With 35 overdose deaths last year and 17 already on the books since December, heroin is never far from his mind.

Representatives from the State's Attorney's office and the Kankakee Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group joined Gessner on Wednesday night to discuss the county's drug crisis.
